Top Ten Favorite Movies of Summer 2013

Below is a list of my top ten (10) favorite movies from the Summer of 2013. I am well aware a good number of films ended up as flops. At least a few of them are on my list. I had not seen some of the movies missing from this list (i.e., "THE WORLD'S END") or I simply found it hard to enjoy them. Without further ado, here is that list of favorites:
TOP TEN FAVORITE MOVIES OF SUMMER 2013

1. "The Great Gatsby" - Baz Luhrmann co-wrote and directed this splashy latest adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's 1925 novel about a mysterious millionaire during the early years of the Jazz Age. Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, Carey Mulligan and Joel Edgerton starred.

2. "The Butler" - Lee Daniels directed this emotional tale about the life and career of a White House butler, who served under seven U.S. Presidents. Forest Whitaker and Oprah Winfrey starred.

3. "Man of Steel" - Henry Cavill became the latest actor to portray Clark Kent aka Superman in this reboot directed by Zack Synder. Amy Adams and Michael Shannon co-starred.

4. "RED 2" - This surprisingly funny tale is a sequel to the 2010 movie about a group of former intelligence agents. Directed by Dean Parisot, the movie starred Bruce Willis, Mary-Louise Parker and John Malkovich.

5. "World War Z" - Brad Pitt starred in this adaptation of Max Brooks' post-apocalyptic novel about a zombie-like pandemic. Marc Forster directed.

6. "2 Guns" - Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg made a surprisingly effective screen team in this adaptation of a comic novel about two Federal agents in search of stolen money wanted by others. The movie was directed by Baltasar Kormákur.

7. "Iron Man 3" - Tony Stark aka Iron Man deals with a ghost from the past, who has found a new and dangerous method to create super soldiers. Directed by Shane Black, the movie starred Robert Downey Jr. as the armored super hero.

8. "White House Down" - Roland Emmerich directed this action-packed tale about a Federal cop who helps the U.S. President evade a paramilitary group who invade and take over the White House. Channing Tatum and Jamie Foxx starred.

9. "The Lone Ranger" - Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer portrayed Tonto and the Lone Ranger in this colorful take on the old radio show about a masked vigilante in the Old West. Produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, Gore Verbinski directed.

10. "Fast and Furious 6" - Vin Diesel, Paul Walker and company returned in this follow-up to the 2011 hit film, in which they help Federal agents take down a British criminal mastermind. Justin Lin directed.
