Seven years ago, the BBC aired a five-part miniseries adaptation of Elizabeth Gaskell’s series of stories about a small town in North West England. I finally watched "SYLVIA", the 2003 biography on poet Sylvia Plath, on DVD. After all I have heard about the movie, I had expected to be disappointed by it. To be truthful, I found it quite interesting biopic that was especially enhanced by the leads' performances. But . . . "SYLVIA" was not a perfect film. ( Read more... )

"AMAZING GRACE" (2006-07) Review
Ever since the release of the 2012 Oscar winning film, "12 YEARS A SLAVE", there seemed to be this idea - especially with the British media - that Hollywood has remained silent regarding the topic of American slavery. I find this opinion ironic, considering my failure to find many U.K. films on British slavery. ( Read more... )

"HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS - Part II" (2011) Review
When I had first learned that Warner Brothers Studio and the producers of the HARRY POTTER franchise planned to divide the series' last novel into two movies, I had harbored strong doubts against this plan. Then I saw "HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS, PART I" and my doubts were erased. I thought for sure that they would be able to pull this off. And after watching the last movie in the movie . . . I have changed my mind again. ( Read more... )
